Spotted: BANKSY

This guy found himself on the list of the world's 100 most influential people in 2010 Time magazine. I guess you could say he was in good company among Steve Jobs, Bill Clinton, Serena Williams, Barack Obama, and Oprah Winfrey.

He's a British graffiti artist who has bombed cities all around the world. We haven't seen his work in Chicago since 2010, but we want him back!
But he doesn't just decorate deteriorating walls. Banksy is also a film director, a political activist, and a painter.

From B.Easy on http://www.jugrnaut.com/blog/banksy-x-chicago/

We don't know a lot about him. It's believed that he was born in Bristol, England around '74.
He started his career as a graffiti artist in the early 90's with 'DryBreadZ Crew', a gang in Bristol. When Banksy started his work, it was mostly freehand, with stencils on occasion. Within 10 years, he changed up his style to regularly using stencils.

Banksy's style is is composed of unfamiliar and striking images often mixed with words or slogans. Around the world he has been known to combine his political activism with his street art. His designs include war critique, capitalism, and greed. Some common objects and images that signify it's a Banksy are rats, policemen, children, and apes.

He may not be a Chicago native, but his work here has influenced numerous other artists.

Banksy has been M.I.A. for over a year, but there are rumors that he's about to strike again- sometime next month actually! The buzz says that he might hit L.A. for his rebirth, but we will just have to wait and see

All of the photos included in this post are taken from spots in Chicago. The two without locations listed are definitely Banksy's as they once were included, therefore confirmed, on his website.

  1. I really like how the About Me section is set up on your blog. I think you did an excellent job that describes who you are and where you are coming from. I also think that the quote that you added at the end was able to let the audience know a little more of what you stand for.

The description is awesome! At first I was thinking how can you write all about this street art in Chicago just from reading things on the internet, but when I saw you About Me section, I realized you live there. I think it is really great how you are taking a little bit from back home and helping to educate us, here on the East Coast. Also being a photography enthusiast, I like seeing pictures and learning more about there background meaning.

Your first post is definitely an audience grabber. I like how you incorporated big name people like Steve Jobs to get your initial point across. Your passion for this subject is definitely seen in this blog post because it shows how you had followed his work in the past and, as you stated, want him to come back to Chicago. Are the pictures on here, ones that you have personally taken? I really think it was important to add a little history to where this graffiti artist came from, like you did above.

  2. You did an awesome job with your About Me section! It really described who you were and why you were writing this blog. I like how you gave your background on how you are from Chicago and telling about your transition to a college student in New England.

Your description had me hooked from the start! It was very well written and described your blog perfectly. Chicago street art seems like it would be a really awesome topic to write a blog about, and I'm definitely interested to read more from your blog!

Your first part was written very well I like how you gave the background information on the artist and how there is not a lot of information about him. I also like how you incorporated that he was on the Top 100 Most Influential People in 2010. I learned a lot of new information about Chicago street art just from this one post, and I'm definitely interested in learning more about this topic!

  3. Your about me section gave me a clear idea of who you are why you're writing your blog. It hooked the reader and you brought a quirky sense of yourself into your writing.

Your description was an accurate description or your blog and let your audience know exactly what you plan to report on in your posts. It makes the concept of street art seem exciting and thrilling due to the fact that it's found not only in Chicago, but around the world.

Your first post was brilliant. I love that you covered Banksy because out of most graffiti artists, he's probably the most well known, especially his telephone booth piece. One thing I wish you had emphasized on was Banksy's anonymity. You brought up the fact that sometimes his pieces can be difficult to trace to him but nobody really knows what he looks like. I think that's a pretty incredible thing because it means the art speaks for itself. Other than that I thought your post was engaging and I loved the photos your chose.

  4. The about me was nice and to the point with your background, the picture and quotation especially added a nice touch that I believe further connects you to your blog.

The description was accurate and enticing while also making it clearly a clubhouse blog. As one of the most popular arts in the world your description provided that extra bit of information that I think will persuade readers to explore further.

Your first post about Banksy had a perfect opening hook "This guy found himself on the list of the world's 100 most influential people in 2010 Time magazine." and further informed with a hefty amount of information. The three images provided were excellent and they left me wanting to see more. Maybe the inclusion of a link to an online gallery would be the only thing I'd add to an otherwise interesting blog.
